Marsha-Dawn Hall

President

Inspired by an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show on breast cancer, Marsha-Dawn signed up online to volunteer at an upcoming breast cancer walk. Ironically, two days before the event, her mother received the first of two breast cancer diagnoses. There was no known history of breast cancer in the family. In subsequent years, Marsha-Dawn, along with her husband and mother continued to volunteer at similar events but felt a profound connection to Komen after attending the Central Florida Race for the Cure. "We were so moved by the energy there. You felt the hope and determination and then we were awed by the pride and spirit of the Survivors as they were deservedly honored at the Survivor Ceremony. That did it, our family has been part of the Race ever since."

Now a mother herself, Marsha-Dawn is even more committed to the effort to end breast cancer and help those affected because it reaches every aspect of one’s life. She has served on the Board as Volunteer Coordinator as well as an officer. "I want my son and daughter to think of breast cancer the way I thought of polio as a child growing up in Jamaica - as a very bad thing that affected people a long time ago. Every woman or man diagnosed with breast cancer is one too many and a cure will be found!" She insists on being able to tell her children she contributed to that effort in some way, to teach them they have the power to affect change and a civic duty to do so!
