The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central Florida Affiliate has created a program to involve physicians in the Komen Race For The Cure®. The mission of Doctors For The Cure® is to enable all breast cancer survivors to attend the Komen Central Florida Race For The Cure® free of charge. The 2007 race honored over 300 breast cancer survivors. The funds raised through the Doctors For The Cure® program will pay an entry fee for each survivor. Up to 75% of the remaining net proceeds will be used to fund local education, screening and treatment programs while a minimum of 25% will help to fund the Komen Award and Research Grant Program.
In 2007, over $260,000 was distributed to local agencies in grants from Komen Central Florida. We invite you, a Central Florida physician, to help us honor even more men and women who have fought and are fighting this terrible disease.

It’s easy to become a Doctor For The
Cure®.
Once registered, we will send you specially marked applications for you to forward to your patients who are breast cancer survivors. It will be the responsibility of each patient to fill in the application and send it directly to us. We will also supply a sample cover letter for you to enclose with the Race applications. This letter will explain to your patients that they are invited to participate in the Annual Komen Central Florida Race For The Cure® free of charge. We encourage you to personalize the letter for your individual patients.
Due to strict doctor/patient confidentiality practices, your office will need to identify survivor patients and send the application and cover letter to each patient. If you don’t keep lists of breast cancer survivor patients, those names may often be obtained from hospital radiology records. Once you send the initial letter, we’ll take care of the rest of the registration process.
